If you are looking to gain new skills, improve how you practice and advance your career as a pharmacist The University of Queensland has a range of postgraduate courses to suit your needs.
Offered completely online, UQ’s Clinical Pharmacy programs are designed to meet the demands of working pharmacists in hospitals and other healthcare settings.
The programs enable pharmacists to practice at a higher level and improve the quality of care provided to patients by developing their knowledge in clinical pharmacy practice and skills in management and research.
Program Director Judith Burrows, said the online format provides the opportunity for pharmacists from all over Australia to complete the programs.
“Our programs give students the opportunity to learn from experts and peers through interactive modules, online real-time tutorials and group activities,” Mrs Burrows said.
“Students find it extremely valuable to be able to collaborate and share their experiences with other pharmacists nationwide.”
Three flexible study options are available that can be undertaken as full-time or part-time and students can commence study in Semester 1 or Semester 2 in 2016.
The options are Graduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy (8 units), Graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (16 units) and Master of Clinical Pharmacy (24 units).
Part-time students can further reduce their study load and undertake two units per semester.
Clinical Pharmacy Diploma graduate and community pharmacist Paul Scholz, said enrolling in the program was the single most important step in his career.
“Two years ago, I had come to a professional crossroad,” Mr Scholz said.
“I had been working in the same community pharmacy for four years and I was finding it was harder to keep up with continual education.
“I have a new confidence in my role and am able to share my knowledge with local healthcare professionals and my staff, further increasing the value of the program.
“The program’s flexible delivery allowed me to work full-time and enjoy life outside of work and study.”
The career opportunities for graduates range from conducting medication reviews in residential and primary care settings, introducing new services in community pharmacy, clinical education and pharmacist-led out-patients clinics.
