Electronic Prescriptions: A guide for pharmacy assistants

The rollout of electronic prescriptions is a once-in-a-generation change to community pharmacy that will eventually transform the way we interact with our patients. Electronic prescriptions provide patients with the convenience and flexibility to choose how they receive their prescriptions.

The adoption of electronic prescriptions requires significant change management to your pharmacy workflows. For those patients who choose to have their medication prescribed electronically it will be a big change, and may require some time for them to understand this new method. It’s important that all pharmacy staff are educated on electronic prescriptions so that they can meet the needs of their community.

Guild Learning and Development have partnered with the Australian Digital Health Agency to produce a new online module titled Electronic prescriptions: A guide for pharmacy assistants. The module introduces the different ways that an electronic prescription may be presented in a pharmacy – via a token or Active Script List – and helps pharmacy assistants to answer questions that patients might have about their electronic prescriptions.

The module is free to access to all pharmacy assistants in Australia.
